Teach for Portugal – Leadership development programme

The Leadership Development Programme is paid, formative, professional and lasts for 2 years. In this programme, the Mentor works full-time in a school in a socio-economically disadvantaged context, accompanying one or more teachers, allowing more attention to be given to the students, creating cohesion and resolving repetitive situations of drop-out, demotivation and conflict.
It is based on the Teach for All network model that has been tested and replicated in 61 countries, for the last 30 years.
The Programme has a detailed training plan, based on the Leadership Development Theory inspired by the principles: Lead yourself; Lead with the others and Lead the change.
The mentors training starts with the Teach for Portugal Academy, and continues during the 2 years of field intervention, with an internship opportunity in the middle. The whole training plan is responsibility of the Training and Development team, who provide the learning opportunities of more than 300 hours through theoretical and practical training. The training plan and the expected skills to be acquired are also worked out individually with each Mentor through individualised coaching sessions with a pedagogical tutor and through performance and leadership development assessments.
