The use of “tutoring” and “mentoring” tools: how do they help improve students’ competences?

As part of the 1st Online Conference on Education in the 21st Century, this paper aims to raise awareness of some of the needs and challenges of the Teaching-Learning process. To do so, it reviews the current situation of the education system, setting as a general objective to build a quality education system throughout life.

Reaching this objective requires a methodological change in the educational structure,
such as the introduction of peer tutoring and peer mentoring. Among its results are an increase in student commitment, improved academic performance, promotion of personal and social development, associated with a positive school environment etc.

In this line, an analysis is carried out of the methodologies based on “peer tutoring” and “peer mentoring” will be analysed, examining their conceptualisation, benefits, disadvantages, as well as experiences developed, which demonstrate that participants that demonstrate that participants acquire knowledge, competences, skills, abilities, attitudes and values, with which they can attitudes and values, with which to become civic citizens.
